Domino’s Pizza
Domino’s pizza is an American-founded multinational pizza restaurant chain that was established in 1961.
Their headquarters is at the Domino’s Farms Office Park in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Domino’s pizza was founded in 1961, when brothers Tom Monaghan and James Monaghan decided to take over the running of a small pizza restaurant known as DomiNick’s which was located in Ypsilanti, Michigan.
They paid a sum of 50 dollars to take over all the operations in the restaurant chain and they also bought the store to use in producing the pizzas.
At the beginning of the business, the brothers split the hours that they worked evenly between each other but James was also working as a postman and he did not want to quit his job.
So about eight months into the creation of the business, James Monaghan decided to trade away his share of the business to his brother Tom, for the car, which was a Volkswagen Beetle, that they used to deliver pizzas.
Just 4 years after the establishment of Domino’s, Tom Monaghan bought out two more pizzerias and he now had three branches in that same town.
The Name Domino’s Pizza
He wanted the stores to all be called DomiNick’s just like the original store which they purchased, but Dominick DiVarti, the original owner of DomiNick’s prevented them from using the brand.
So they instead chose the name Domino’s, which was coined by an employee named Jim Kennedy.
Monaghan loved the name and he then renamed the business Domino’s Pizza in 1965.
After the name was decided, a logo had to be created and they chose to have a logo with a red rectangle and three dots placed on it to symbolize the three Domino’s stores that were in operation back in 1965.
The plan they had was to add a dot for each new store that was opened but the establishment grew much quicker and much bigger than they ever expected.
In 1975, the logo changed to a straight vertical red rectangle with the three dots still on it, attached to a straight blue rectangle with the words “Domino’s pizza” written in it.
Between 1965 and 1978, Domino’s pizza grew astronomically from just 3 stores to about 200 and by 1995 it had a thousand stores.
Domino’s Pizza Logo
And in 1996, the logo was given a more chic look, with the outlines being removed and the logo made a bit askew.
In 2012, the name “Domino’s pizza” was changed to just “Domino’s”.
This was mainly geared towards informing the public that they sold more than just pizzas, and in 2013, the logo was changed once more to what it currently is, which is the blue square with two dots in it and the red square on top with one dot in it, as well as the name Domino’s under it.
The range and type of products that Domino’s offers differ based on the location of the branch.
Of course, pizza is the main delicacy served but there are many more food items that can be purchased.

They have a wide variety of food, with pizzas like the pepperoni and the Deluxe pizza is very popular, as well as the Pacific Veggie Pie, which is a healthier option if that is what you’re looking for.
