In This Article:
Pizza Hut is a restaurant chain that is based in America but has branches worldwide.
It was founded by Frank and Dan Carney in Wichita, Kansas. Pizza Hut is very well known for its American-Italian menu comprising of pizza, pasta, desserts, and sides. It was created by the Carney boys when they were students of Wichita State University in June 1958.
It started with just one outlet, but after six months they opened a second store and in just over a year they had six Pizza Hut stores.
And now, they have over 18,000 restaurants which makes it the biggest Pizza Chain in terms of locations of stores.
Pizza hut is now a subsidiary of Yum! Brands which is a huge restaurant company.
The Carneys decided to start franchising in 1959 and this was when the business started to expand. The classic pizza hut building was designed in 1963 by George Lindstrom and it was fully implemented in 1969.
In November 1977, Pizza Hut was acquired by PepsiCo but it was later spun off in 1997, before it then joined Tricon Global Restaurants (now Yum! Brands) in May 2002.
Rebranding Process
Pizza Hut started a rebranding process in November 2014 to boost sales as their sales had dropped in the last couple of years. More things were added to the menu such as new crust flavors and several more types of pizzas.
They even upgraded the uniforms of the members of staff. Pizza hut is most known for selling great pan pizzas but in April 2008, the restaurant chain decided to take a step toward creating a more diverse menu by introducing a new Tuscani pasta line.
And to promote this new product, they decided to create one of the best publicity stunts ever, by changing the name from Pizza Hut to Pasta Hut.
This created quite a stir in the media and it created a good amount of publicity for the restaurant and their new pasta products.
Pizza hut creates hand-tossed pan pizzas that are wrapped in cheese.
Some of the pizzas are created in small strips that were dipped in several types of sauces, with pizzas such as the P’zone and the Bigfoot pizza being some of the best and most popular items on the Pizza Hut menu.
